By-election: Senate, Reps adjourn plenary for campaigns

The two chambers of the National Assembly have adjourned plenary sitting the same day they resumed from a month-long break.

Both the Senate and House of Representatives, after yesterday’s legislative business, adjourned their sittings to Tuesday, February 6, to enable members of parliament to participate in campaigns ahead of this Saturday’s by-elections and re-run elections.

The polls will be held in 26 states of the federation.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas adjourned the plenary following a motion by Senate and House leaders, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele and Julius Ihonvbere respectively.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said in nine states, two senators, four members of the House of Representatives and three members of State Houses of Assembly will be elected in bye-elections to replace members who passed on or resigned their memberships of the national and state assemblies.
