Buzz as LIMCAF 2017 set for kick off

The annual Life in My City Art (LIMCAF) festival will have former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke will as chair of the gala award nights, Enugu, October 28.

This news was announced broken by the director of the festival, Mr Kevin Ejiofor, in a statement

He said the former governor was asked to chair the festival on  account of being a well-known culture enthusias and promoter who gave Nigeria its first truly international culture festival, the annual Calabar Festival.

According to Ejiofor, Duke will chair the climax event of a Festival week which will feature art exhibitions by different groups in various centres in Enugu, a photo workshop for aspiring art photographers from around the country, a multimedia workshop by CLAM, the acclaimed France-based international digital magazine of pop art and culture, which will be led by CLAM founder and film maker Andy Okoroafor.

Other off events include a night of live music by the Music Society of Enugu and the Enugu-based Sound House.

The festival, which is in its 11th year, has been lauded by renowned artist, Professor Jerry Buhari, saying, “At first glance, LIMCAF would appear like a regional art festival, however its structural profile reveals a national dimension. It draws art works from the length and breadth of the entire country: Abuja, Auchi, Enugu, Ibadan, Kaduna, Lafia, Lagos, Owerri Port Harcourt and Uyo. This covers the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. The cities are capital cities that represent perhaps the greatest and most vibrant cultural centres representing the diversity of peoples of Nigeria. LIMCAF symbolises a quiet cultural revival that would one day give birth to a mega art festival like Dak’Art or Documenta!”

In the meantime entries for the 2017 Festival, which for the first time were online, have since closed with a total of nearly 200 works by young artists from across the country competing for the first prize of N500,000, three category prizes of N250,000 each and ten other endowed prizes ranging from N50,000 to N200,000.

This sets the stage for the competition and selection at the level of LIMCAF’s zones in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Auchi, Uyo and Enugu. From these zones, 100 finalists will be selected to feature in the Grand Finale Exhibition and Award Night.

The Abuja Zone Exhibition opens on Tuesday the 19th of September at the Thought Pyramid Art Centre on Libreville Street, of Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse ll.

It is from these zone exhibitions that the 100 finalists will be selected to appear at the Grand Finale Exhibition opening in Enugu on Monday 23rd October 2017 with the award night on the 28th, the orgranisers said.
