The need for alumni to cultivate the habit of  giving back to their alma mater has been emphasized.

The vice chancellor of the federal university of technology Minna, Professor Abdullahi Bala made the call during the donation of digital audio recording equipment to FUT Minna Campus Radio “Search FM 92.3” by BuyPower incorporated, a tech firm that helps electricity consumers purchase prepaid units electronically.

“The University is always appreciative and grateful to any benefactor that contributes to boosting the profile of the institution.  Therefore, it is really heartwarming that alumni of the university have come to give back to their alma mater,” Professor Bala said.

“I am happy that students of the university are present here to witness the donation. It goes a long way to tell these students of what the university expects from them after graduation. There is an umbilical cord that links you students to the University for life because you are going to hold certificates and diplomas of the university. It is in your interests to make sure that the university continues to make progress in leaps and bounds because the profile and name of the university is also your profile and name,” he added.

The University’s Vice-Chancellor also underscored the impact of alumni community on the ratings of universities.

The chairman of the campus radio board, Professor Akin Osunde highlighted that the Campus radio has been without a recording studio since its inception, a development which necessitated crew members of the campus radio to always wait for the live studio to be free of any activity before they can record.

“This prompted the station’s management to reach out to BuyPower Incorporated to donate Advanced digital Audio Recording studio equipment worth over 2 million Naira,” he added.

The donated equipment includes a workstation, sound card, recording mics, vocal booths, monitor speakers, MIDI, electronic drums, semi-acoustic guitars, sound sensitive studio lights amongst others.

It is worthwhile to note that the donor, BuyPower Incorporated with the website BuyPower.ng is one of the fastest tech growing Tech Companies in Nigeria and the outfit is fast becoming the biggest medium through which prepaid electricity unit can be purchased from homes and offices at peoples’ convenience.

Initiators and founders of BuyPower incorporated are products of FUT Minna. Its current Chief Executive Officer Mr Benjamin Ojima Ufaruna and Chief Operating Officer Mr Leonard Oladipo Asehinde are 2008/2009 graduates of Maths/Statistics and Computer Engineering respectively

Ufaruna said social impact has always been a core component of BuyPower’s mission, adding that the donation of Advanced digital Audio Recording studio equipment to his the campus radio of his alma mater was a good step in that direction.
