But for Wike, Fubara would have been a level 14 civil servant – ex-Commissioner

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State would have been a Level 14 Civil Servant in Rivers if not for Nyesom Wike, Alabo George-Kelly, a former Commissioner of Works in Rivers, has said.

George-Kelly, who served under Wike and Fubara, had quit office at the height of the rift between the incumbent governor and his successor.

Speaking with Channels Television, the former commissioner said Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elevated Fubara to DFA, Permanent Secretary, Accountant-General and later made him governor.

“We must not forget about those that helped us to climb. Fubara would have been a level 14 civil servant in the Ministry of Finance. It is Wike that made him a DFA, Permanent Secretary, Accountant-General, and then a governor today.

“Some of us should be bold enough to speak the truth to power.”

Less than six months after succeeding Wike as Rivers governor, Fubara fell out with the minister and efforts to reconcile the duo have not yielded the desired result.

The crisis reached its height when a Rivers High Court restrained lawmakers loyal to Wike from parading themselves as members of the state assembly.

Speaking at a function in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers, at the weekend, Wike said he made a mistake supporting Fubara, vowing that the mistake would be corrected at the appropriate time.

“I want to say this clearly: in life, we make mistakes. I have made a mistake. I own it up and I say God forgive me. I have said all of you forgive me. But we will correct it at the appropriate time.

“I am human. I am bound to make mistakes. So forgive me for making a wrong judgment.”
