Bus conductor stabbed to death over well water

Weekly Trust gathered that following water scarcity bedeviling the people of Kaduna metropolis, residents of the area resorted to other sources of water. Like other people in the state, the residents of the Kakurin Gwari fetch water for their domestic use from a public well located in the front of the suspect father’s house.

However, on Sunday 23rd of May, at about 7.am, Hamza locked the well without any genuine reason and ordered that nobody should open it, a witness told our correspondent. He added that people went there as usual to fetch water but that the well was under lock and key.

The deceased, Weekly Trust learnt, was said to have intervened by pleading with Hamza to open the well. “He told Hamza to open the well so that the people who are waiting can fetch water but he refused,’’ a witness explained.

His refusal led to an argument between them which later resulted in a brawl. It was gathered that people waiting to fetch water quickly separated them.

“When they were separated, the suspect went to their house without opening the well but the deceased assisted the people and open it so that we can fetch water. Suddenly, we saw Hamza running at a high speed from their house holding a knife while Bashir was busy washing the stains in his body as a result of the fight they had with Hamza earlier ,’’ the witness said.

He added that, “before, we could draw the attention of Hamza to the return of Bashir, he was already too close to him. He stabbed him on his neck. In less than a minute, blood started gushing out like water from a tap pump’’.

Another eye witness, one Adamu who witnessed the incident said all efforts to stop the blood yielded no result. “The deceased was shouting, ‘take me’ to Hospital but that he died before getting there.

Adamu who is the boss of the suspect said on hearing the demise of Hamza, he attempted to run. However, the people around held him firmly.

When the news got to the suspect father who is a reputable Islamic preacher in the area ordered that the suspect be killed too in line with the Islamic teachings. But the intervention of the Task Force team and some elders in the community stopped them from carrying out the directive.

Speaking to our correspondent, the suspect father who joined the families of the deceased to receive sympathizers explained why he ordered that his son be killed too.

“It was not my saying but Allah’s. Whoever kills should be killed. Whoever removes someone’s eye, his eye should be removed too,” he said. Hamza’s Father who laced his argument with quotations from the Quran, said for the reduction of killings of innocent person in the country, anybody who killed should be killed too. Looking sober, he described his son as very helpful to the family especially to his mother who had a leg problem as a result of accident she had.

The deceased’s mother, Malama Rakiya she described the incident as the will of Allah and also prayed for the application of the Shariah legal system on the case.

“There is nothing I can do, because what Allah has destined to happen would surely happen and it has happened, May his soul rest in peace,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP  Aminu Lawan described the act as unfortunate. He said they have completed the investigation on the case and that the accused person has been charge to court for prosecution.
