Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has said education remains and will continue to be the priority of his government.
He also said his government is prioritizing primary and secondary education to ensure that no child of Yobe misses out on education.
To achieve this, the governor added, state of emergency was declared on education.
The governor stated these at the Government House, Damaturu, while receiving the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) under the leadership of Alhaji Kashim Imam.
While appreciating the interventions of TETFUND to the six tertiary institutions in the state, Governor Buni said,
We appreciate what TETFUND has been doing in Yobe state, but like Oliver Twist we are asking for more. Institutions like the state polytechnic Geidam was almost destroyed by insurgents. But we are doing out best and currently we are rebuilding the institution.”
On his part the chairman TETFUND Board of Trustees Alhaji Kashim Imam said, this year TEFUND will invest N8 billion in the six tertiary institutions of Yobe state. This is an increase in the intervention of TETFUND in Yobe State institutions.
Alhaji Kashim Imam commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for providing “exceptional leadership in a difficult situation.”
