Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Wednesday laid the foundation for the construction of Potiskum Ultra-Modern Market.
The contract was awarded to Ponglemerape Ltd at a total cost of N2,630,000,123.72 with a completion period of 12 months.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor said the construction of modern markets had been significant to the improvement of economic opportunities thriving in the state.
Buni said similar markets are currently under construction in Damaturu, Gashua and Nguru with more for other towns in the pipeline.
He said such a project was aimed at enhancing economic opportunities and job creation for the teeming youths.
He said N195,831,900 was already approved for payment of compensation for the lands acquired for construction of the market.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Potiskum United Marketers Association, Nasiru Mato, thanked Buni for the gesture, adding that it would boost commercial activities of the local government and the state at large.
