The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has agreed to host the maiden Media Trust gubernatorial candidate’s debate for the 2023 elections in Kano.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas gave the assurance when a delegation of the Media Trust Group paid him a visit to his office.

He said the university as a public institution is open to partnerships and developmental initiatives, adding that such debate will come at a better time as the candidates need to be scrutinised for the interest of the public.

“We are ready to provide an avenue where the debate will hold. We have many ways to participate.

“I will advise you to clearly tell whoever is going to participate that they are not going to troop into the campus with supporters because this is an academic environment and students are here.

“The idea is for you to get the candidates in an enlightened way to communicate to the general public to see who is who and who is for what,” he said, stressing the need to continue to focus on issue-based discussions while engaging candidates at all levels.

Responding, the General Manager, Northern Operations of Media Trust, Abdullahi Mainasara who was in the company of the Bureau Chief, Clement A. Oloyede and Head of Marketing and Circulation, Hassana Alfa thanked the vice chancellor and his management team for accepting to offer the venue for the historic event.

He assured the institution of the readiness of the Media Trust Group to ensure a hitch-free event is conducted while intimating the school management that security agencies including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have already committed to providing round-the-clock security for the event while candidates from the leading parties in the state have also committed to participating in the maiden event.
