Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expressed its readiness to implement the unbundling of Mass Communication into a faculty that will house eight academic degree-awarding programs which are expected to commence soon.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Sagir Adamu Abbas, announced this position at a two-day roundtable conference on “Media Development and Sustainable Funding in Nigeria” held at the Bayero University, Kano.

Prof. Abbas said with the support of the MacArthur Foundation, the university is at the advanced stage of unveiling its television station, having secured operational license and procurement of facilities.
The VC applauded the foundation for supporting the establishment of a digital FM radio station and computer laboratory that can accommodate 150 students.
The convener of the roundtable and vice-chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, in Gombe State, Professor Umaru Pate, explained that the conference which drew media executives, professionals and academia was to chart a new path towards addressing funding and developmental challenges bedevilling the mainstream media industry in Nigeria.
