The Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Abbas says the institution is not comfortable with the trend of lecturers leaving the country in droves and is therefore putting in place strategies to enhance their salaries.
The VC disclosed this at the 4th College Foundation Day organized by the College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano with the theme; “Funding medical education in the current economic realities: The way forward” held at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on Thursday.
He said, “Acknowledging the concerning trend of lecturers leaving the country, we have implemented strategies to enhance their salary packages. Our dedication to retaining and attracting top-tier educators is unwavering, ensuring the continued excellence of our academic programs.
“We have welcomed over 200 transfer students from Sudan, enriching our academic community with diverse perspectives within the College of Health Sciences. This international collaboration strengthens our global reach and fosters a dynamic learning environment.”

He also said to address financial constraints in training, the university has adjusted registration fees and introduced special charges for students of the College. “These measures are taken in the hope that some of the financial challenges faced by our students would be resolved.”
He further announced that for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences – there is construction of a new hostel at a rural posting site aimed at providing students with an environment conducive to learning, fostering their growth and development.
Earlier, the Provost, Aisha Kuliya Gwarzo said the college is involved in high-level national and international collaborations which have been instrumental in winning a significant number of research grants worth millions of dollars contributing to the growth of the college and the university.
