Building collapse: COREN develops safety standards

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has said work has begun on developing National Construction Safety Standards for Nigeria in the area of building and civil infrastructure. 

COREN president, Ali Rabiu, who made this known in a notice to members, a copy of which was made available to Daily Trust, also said the council had successfully investigated, reprimanded and prosecuted some erring engineering practitioners on building collapse and sundry offences.

The COREN president said Engineering Accreditation Committee had been set up, to among other terms of reference, implement COREN accreditation policy and formulate guidelines and procedures for accreditation and the launch of new engineering programmes.

He added that COREN was implementing the Engineering Regulations Monitoring Programme by establishing state technical committees and state expatriate monitoring committees in all the states of the federation.
