The 45th Builders’ Conference and Annual General Meeting organized by the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), the professional body of builders and will-be builders opens today in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement signed by its president, Bldr. Tunde Lasabi, the conference theme: Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the Construction Industry is aimed at creating more awareness in National Vocational Qualification Framework which is an initiative of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) that was approved by the Federal Executive Council.
“The framework provides a structure for the management, administration and accreditation of qualifications. It also provides a national system of ordering National Vocational Qualifications (NVQS) according to progressive levels of attainment and areas of certified skills competence,” the statement said.
It said the conference will focus on craftsmen and artisans training, construction skills development, policy issues in Nigerian economy and business skills development among construction professionals.
The statement added that the conference will provide opportunity for peer review in global best practices, as their concern is that the construction of buildings will not be left in the hands of quacks.
According to the statement, the conference closes on Friday.
