Buhari’s media aide spreads fake news about Atiku


The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku on Monday, December 3rd 2018 started his presidential campaign in Sokoto State.

A few hours after the campaign, a media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie on her twitter handle @Laurestar posted a photo of disposable food packs with N500 notes with the caption

“KEEP THEM IN POVERTY, THEN GIVE THEM HANDOUTS- ATIKU in Sokoto yesterday”

She also made another post with a montage of the same photo alluding to Atiku.

A quick search on google would reveal that the photo in question has been in circulation as far back as 2017.

One of such early use of the photo was by a blog  in a post “This is how actress Ruth Eze and her friends celebrated their Valentine’s Day (Photos)” which alluded that the actress distributed it to indigent persons to celebrate 2017 valentine day.

Also the photo surfaced in several post on popular Nigerian forum Nairaland,  In one of such posts, the photo was screengrabbed from @temconnect11 account which had a caption saying how food should be served at a party

 

Was the photo alleged by Onochie from Atiku’s Sokoto presidential campaign?

Answer: FALSE, because the photo has been in circulation several months before his rally.
