Amidst jubilation, the campaign train of President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Damaturu to woo supporters ahead of the February 16 presidential election in Yobe state.
Our correspondent reports that the president landed around 2:15pm at an open air space of Government House in Damaturu.
He arrived in company of the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, the Director General for Buhari’s re-election bid, Rotimi Amaechi, APC National leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Hadiza Bala Usman
President Buhari was received by the Yobe State governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, the state APC gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, former minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, DG of NEMA, Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, members of the National Assembly, other political appointees as well as party officials and stakeholders.
The president arrived August 27 stadium around 3:30pm where he is expected to address the mammoth party’s supporters who had waited for his arrival under scotching sun for eight hours.
Famous Kannywood singers that include Fati Niger, Kamilu and the popular Buhari Hausa singer, Kahutu Rarara, displayed their talents amidst supporters’ jubilation.
Although the state has not declared for public holiday, traders and government officials had shut down businesses to welcome the president.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the former minister of Foreign Affairs, Hajia Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, said they have mobilized women folks from all over the state to woo supporters for President Buhari, and all APC elective positions across the states.
Also, the DG of NEMA, Mustapha Maihaja, said that now that peace has been achieved in Yobe, the state is targeting 100 percent votes for the president.
“With the achievement, recorded by Buhari’s administration on security, the 96 percent votes the president received from Yobe in 2015 would now be 100, it may not be realisable but, we are targeting it,” he said.
He said the president is more popular and accepted and his projects are speaking for him everywhere in the country.
