Ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to commission the 330/132/33kV Akurba power transmission substation in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule has called for more investments in the State.

Sule made the overture shortly after witnessing the energising of 60MVA transformers at the Akurba power substation, on Wednesday while the commissioning by Buhari will hold this month.

According to the governor, the Akurba substation built by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) would encourage investors running away from Lafia because of the lack of a steady power supply.

He said on Tuesday, the 150MVA power transformer at the substation was energised, marking the beginning of operations of the transmission substation.

“Today, they can feel free to come and invest in Lafia because it’s an opportunity to see these investments now to see these investments are coming. This is a very stable power line,” he said.

He explained that with the substation already energised, all that remains is to schedule a date for the project to be commissioned.

He noted that, from the designs of the project, two lines were dedicated to Lafia, with the substation designed to have a total of six lines-out, one line to Doma, Akwanga, Assakio, and Keana respectively.

The governor however pointed out that for now; only the two lines going into Lafia are ready, with the rest to be completed as soon as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) takes over the project.

“Now we will be talking about a date for commissioning. As far as power is concerned, the transformers have been powered,” an excited Governor Sule said.
