Buhari to build Mambilla dam, says Jonathan can’t end Boko Haram

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muhammadu Buhari promised to build Mambilla hydro power dam if elected president in the February 14 polls.

Buhari, who spoke in Jalingo, Taraba State Wednesday during his campaign tour said the construction of the Mambilla hydro dam, which was conceived  over 30 years ago, will provide irrigation opportunities to the people in the surrounding area apart from generating power to the country.

‎The APC flag bearer also said President Jonathan lacks the competence, capacity and training to deal with the Boko Haram menace ravaging many parts of the Northeast, saying he cannot therefore be taken seriously when he claims that he will deal with the terrorists.

In Jalingo, Buhari promised to end insecurity, corruption and youth unemployment, vowing to end Boko Haram militancy because ‎it is not beyond the country’s capacity to tackle if it has the right leadership.

President Jonathan during his campaign visit to Maiduguri, Borno State last week said he would deal with the insurgency if re-elected.

But Buhari in a statement by his campaign media and publicity director Malam Garba Shehu faulted Jonathan, saying having been at the helm of affairs  more than five years, during which Boko Haram has transformed from a group of armed delinquents to an active fighting group,  it is laughable that the government headed byJonathan would be able to contain it.

“It is childish for the same person to say that he would deal with a group that became a monster under his watch,” Buhari said.

The APC flag bearer advised Jonathan to stop the careless talk about dealing with Boko Haram because he clearly has shown little appreciation and leadership in the area of national security.

Buhari said he had travelled similar road in the past with distinction when the nation’s security and well-being was endangered as it has been in the last four years since Boko Haram became a national security and regional security menace while Jonathan fiddled.

“The Boko Haram terrorists are no longer a group that President Jonathan and those who work with him can handle,” he said.

He added that “if in the past five years, the Boko Haram has transformed while Jonathan made empty promises, pray, how can such a leader make any difference in another four years?”

He said the most likely scenario if Jonathan is given another four years in office is that the terrorists would effortlessly take over the entire country.

The Jalingo rally was attended by APC national leader and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Buhari’s running mate Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, ‎APC national chairman John Oyegun, among others.

Chief Oyegun presented flag to the party’s governorship candidate in the state Hajiya Aisha Alhassan.
