President Muhammadu Buhari would by 7:00pm on Sunday (today) address Nigerians on the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a statement on Sunday noon, said the presidential broadcast would be aired on all Television, radio and other electronic media nationwide.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7pm.
“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” the statement read.
The presidential broadcast is coming after massive public outcry by Nigerians especially on social media who were eager to hear from the nation’s number 1 citizen.
Daily Trust reports that President Buhari is yet to address Nigerians via the usual presidential media chat since the first confirmed COVID-19 case of an Italian man was reported in Lagos last February.
As at Saturday night, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen to 97 in Nigeria, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Also, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai announced on Saturday night that he had tested positive for Coronavirus, among other notable Nigerians.
Most states of the federation have now declared total lockdown as part of efforts to reduce the spread of the virus in the country.
