The Hand-in-hand Buhari Support Group, yesterday, rejected the recent position of the Arewa Elders’ Forum endorsing the candidature of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The group said what the elders said did not represent the views of majority of the people of Arewa.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kano, the National Coordinator of the group, Malam Ibrahim Usman, stated that when the North was at the verge of extinction, those calling themselves elders were nowhere to be found, only for them to resurface with “hilarious declaration of support to PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar when the coast was cleared for development.”
He added that Northern youth knew no one as an elder but President Buhari, saying they would give him all the support he needed in 2019.
“It is sad to see the so-called elders’ thinking that they can cajole us again, which is not possible. Where were they when we were denied going to school, observe religious activities or even go to the market? Is it now that they will come out to claim leadership of the North when things have become better?
“As far as we are concerned, the only elder we know is President Buhari because he has rekindled positive hope in the minds of all Nigerians,” he said.
