The Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Development Association, Abuja, has asked persons or groups criticizing the appointment of Obong Nsima Ekere as the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to sheathe their sword as President Muhammadu Buhari took the right decision over him.
The association, in a statement issued in Abuja by its president, Wiliams Monday, said, “It is the belief of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari that Obong Nsima Ekere who is the former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State is a capable administrator and as the former chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment and Property Commission (AKIPOC), he has the technical know-how and competence to run the development interventionist agency like NDDC.”
The association said it was disheartening that “it was our brothers from Oron Federal Constituency in the same senatorial district that opposed and even challenged the appointment of Obong Nsima Ekere in court,” and that it could not understand why they should oppose Ekere’s appointment instead of sharing in the joy of the appointment of their compatriot and collectively making demands on him that would enhance the development of the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.
The association said it was unfortunate that critics should allow selfish tendencies to make them erroneously allude that Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, where Obong Nsima Ekere hails from, is not an oil producing community when historical and contemporary facts indicate it is.
“We implore those aggrieved in Oron Federal Constituency therefore, to sheathe their swords and support the appointment of Obong Nsima Ekere,” the association said.
