President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the former head of Interim Government Ernest Shonekan who died on January 11, 2022.

This is the fourth time the President will chair the meeting which has been held on October 21, 2015; September 7, 2016; and August 2020.
The Council of State is an organ of the Federal Government saddled with the responsibility of advising the executive on policy matters.
Daily Trust learnt that the meeting will consider security and economic matters affecting the country.
The meeting is being attended physically by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
Also, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar and Goodluck Jonathan are among the former leaders of the country who are attending physically.
Moreso, state governors in attendance are Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Atiku Bagudu(Kebbi), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), Nasir El Rufai (Kaduna) amongst others.
Others are attending the meeting virtually from their various locations.
