President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALD) to create integrated farm estates in the 109 senatorial districts in the country.
NALD Executive Secretary, Paul Ikonne, disclosed this to reporters at the weekend after meeting with Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
He urged state governors to key into Buhari’s desire to make land available for those farm estates to be established which, according to him, is expected to tackle youth unemployment to achieve food security.
He described the commissioning of the Daura Integrated Farm Estate in Katsina State as an eye opener to Nigerians towards Buhari’s passion in achieving food security.
He said the Integrated Farm Estate in Borno was 75 percent completed, adding that in 40 locations, fish villages were being set up to engage women.
Ikonne said the Kogi State Government had donated 700 hectares of land to NALDA for the integrated land estate; and Ogun State Government, 100 hectares.
He said the NALDA was in Abia State setting up a fish village to engage women in fish production and packaging.
