President Muhammadu Buhari, his Guinea Bissau counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, and other African leaders on Saturday bid farewell to Mrs Eunice Adesina, mother of the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

The Adesina matriarch died last December at the age of 92.

Her funeral service which was held at the Cathedral Church of St Matthew, Ojowo, Ijebu-Igbo, attracted prominent personalities including African leaders, Nigerian governors and captain of industries.

President Buhari represented by his Minister of Mines and Steel, Arch Lekan Adegbite; Guinea Bissau’s Embalo, who is also the chairman of ECOWAS; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former President Olusegun Obasanjo, representatives of the Presidents of Congo, Benin Republic and Tanzania, all graced the funeral service.

Also in attendance were Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna); Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor; former Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Donald Duke (Cross River); Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, all of Ogun State; Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero; as well as industrialists Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Oba Otudeko.

In his brief remarks, the Chairman of ECOWAS conveyed condolences of the regional leaders to the family over the “immeasurable loss” and asked them to take solace in the life lived by the mother.
