Buhari mourns Maj. Gen. Samaila Iliya

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family and the armed forces over the death of Maj. Gen. Samaila Iliya.

President Buhari, in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the deceased was a distinguished military officer who served the country meritoriously before retirement.

The President also condoled with friends and associates of the officer who distinguished himself in various leadership roles in the army, including holding key positions in the Command and Staff College.

Buhari, who said that Maj. Gen. Iliya brought glory to the country in peace keeping missions in Rwanda, Lebanon, stated that he was appointed Force Commander United Nations Organization Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo.

The President prayed that the Almighty God will receive the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
