President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday congratulated Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on his 63rd birthday.

Buhari, in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, joined his family, friends and the National Assembly to celebrate with the political leader.

He felicitated with Lawan on what he called “the strides so far in providing an inclusive and responsive leadership” at the Senate by using his many years of experience, since 2003, to guide the collective wisdom of the Senate in pursuit of the national interest.

He saluted Lawan’s contributions to the political and economic development of the country, as he started out as a lecturer before accepting to serve his constituency as a legislator.

He said Lawan’s visionary leadership style, with a strong penchant for always finding a common ground with the executive arm of government, had been most rewarding for the country, especially in the passage of bills that directly impacted the livelihood of the people.

Buhari prayed for Lawan’s good health, strength and more wisdom to guide the affairs of the Senate.

Similarly, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, in a statement by his spokesman, Lanre Lasisi, felicitated with Lawan.

He described Lawan as a unifier, an exemplary leader and a legislator par excellence whose contributions to the development of the legislature in about two decades were laudable.

Also, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, in a statement by his spokesman, Umar Muhammad Puma, felicitated with Lawan, describing him as a patriot and a democrat who raised the bar as president of the Senate.

He expressed satisfaction with Lawan’s performance as legislator and Senate president who “places national interest before self.”
