Buhari directs NYSC to enrol corps members into NHIS

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to enroll all corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a media chat with journalist.

He said the scheme has concluded all arrangements with the NHIS for the enrolment of corps members into the health insurance scheme.

He said “we gave expended huge resources on critical health needs of corps members, including footing of bills.”

According to Ibrahim, a corps member, Nurudeen Tahir who lost his arm in a road traffic accident in Taraba State has been discharged after a successful clinical procedure on the usage of the smart prosthetic arms secured for him by the scheme.

On the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development programme, he said the scheme has created more collaboration with financial institutions such as NIRSAL microfinance bank to empower corps entrepreneurs.

He said there was a research-based collaboration with the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and National center for technology management (OAU-NACETEM) which is sponsored by a Canadian-agency, International Development Research Center on evaluation of the impact of SAED and reinvigorating it.

Ibrahim said the scheme has renewed commitment with the bank of industry towards resuscitation of the empowerment of corps entrepreneurs with business loans under the BOI-NYSC Graduate Empowerment Fund.
