Buhari condemns ‘revenge killings in Kaduna’

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the wave of attacks and counter-attacks on people among the Fulani and Addara communities in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State.

President Buhari, in a statement issued Tuesday night by his spokesperson Garba Shehu, said killing in the name of revenge was wrong.

Gunmen invaded Gonar Rogo, a remote village in Kajuru council area of Kaduna, and killed 15 people and injuring five others, police said.

Police said they received a distress call from DPO Kajuru that a group of armed men on motorbikes invaded the community at about 1am on Tuesday.

The President, who reacted to the recent bout of attack and counter-attack reported on Tuesday, said: “Killing people in the name of revenge is not acceptable.”

He said the recourse to self-help instead of the law of the land was the real cause of the killings and counter killings between the two communities.

Buhari warned that no person has the right to take the law in his or her own hands.
