Buhari challenges varsity dons to provide COVID-19 antidote

President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to always embrace dialogue in the quest to better the university education in the country.

Buhari made this plea while delivering his address at the Grand finale of the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin on Saturday.

The president, who is also the Visitor to the university, was represented by Prof Ignatius Onimawo of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The president said, “the university system cannot withstand any crisis now considering the time it had lost to Coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

The president challenged the universities to discover the antidote to the COVID-19 pandemic in the interest of the nation.

“Universities are expected to focus their research on challenges facing our societies and find practical solutions within the context of national development. 

Recall that ASUU recently issued ultimatum to the federal government and accused the government of deliberately ignoring its demands.
