The Head Political Science Department of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Enugu State, Prof. Obasi Igwe has said that the rising tempo of the ongoing anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari must be sustained and not abandoned to avoid disaster.
He spoke yesterday in Abuja at the 2016 National Human Rights Lecture organised by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) themed: “Freedom of Speech Versus Anti Graft Crusade: Any Nexus?”.
“Those that evolved the anti-graft crusade on war on corruption are fully aware and have seen that they created a revolutionary situation, and to relent or go back would be disaster. Before the crusade, we already had a security emergency, an economic/financial emergency and, now a steadily emerging legislative, judicial and educational emergency,” Igwe said.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai represented by the General Office Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Lagos, Maj-Gen. Isidore Henry Edet, said the army was committed to human rights of Nigerians, hence the opening of a human rights desk in the army headquarters.
