President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday observed the juma’at prayer inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa mosque.

The president, dressed in a white flowing babaringa and a matching cap, arrived the mosque at exactly 1.30pm.

He was accompanied by his personal physician, aide-de-camp, chief security officer, state chief of protocols and protocol liaison officer.

After the prayer, Buhari shook hands with some members of the congregation. Those who joined the president for the prayer included the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammed Musa Bello and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami.

Also in the mosque were the National Security Adviser (NSA) General Babagana Monguno (rtd), the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr Ibrahim Magu, the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS) Malam Lawal Musa Daura, and the Chairman National Hajj Commission (NAHCOM) Malam Abdullahi Mukhtar, among others.

Buhari’s absence from the mosque last week and his failure to attend the Federal Executive Council meeting three times had ignited speculations about his health.

The presidency had in a statement late Thursday, disclosed that the visit of President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic to Buhari earlier scheduled for yesterday had been put forward.

Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, noted that the rescheduling was at the instance of President Issoufou who had another domestic engagement.

“All arrangements had been concluded for President Buhari to receive his Nigerien counterpart and his delegation at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa and attend the Jumaat prayers together as well as lunch, before the last-minute postponement. A new date for the visit will be announced in due course,” he stated.
