President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated a former military leader, retired General Ibrahim Babangida, on his 75th birthday.
Buhari, in a message to Babangida, also congratulated him on his service to the country as well as his commitment to the unity and indivisibility of the country.
According to the president, there is hardly any major episode in Nigeria’s history where Babangida’s name and contribution do not feature.
He prayed that Almighty Allah grant Babangida many more years to see Nigeria grow and develop “beyond all of our wildest dreams.”
Similarly, a former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar congratulated Babangida on his birtday in a message yesterday.
Atiku in a statement signed by his Head of Media, Mr Paul Ibe, noted that Babangida facilitated the rapid development of the of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), an idea conceived by the Gen. Murtala Mohammed.
He said one of the greatest legacies of IBB was giving the country a manageable number of political parties by reducing them to two.
He said this reduced waste of resources through financial support from the country’s electoral commission.
He prayed that God grants IBB many more years of good health so that the country could continue to benefit from his wisdom.
