The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), the philanthropic initiative of the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has commenced the construction of a N250 million sport complex at the University of Jos, Plateau State.
The facility which is sited at the Naraguta Campus of the university, is set to consolidate the preparedness of the university in hosting the 2024 Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA).
The facilities being provided at the sports complex are a 300-seater spectator stand, changing rooms, a lawn tennis court, and a basketball court.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, praised the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu for the critical facility intervention.

He said that at the time ASR chose the institution for the laudable project, the university management was worried about how to source funds to provide facilities for the Games.
He added that with the ASR Africa TEGS grant, the university is poised to host more events during the Games.
The Managing Director of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, applauded the management of the University of Jos for being outstanding.
He added that all the universities that are beneficiaries of the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme were selected based on some stringent criteria which include the quality of leadership, academic excellence, amongst others.
Dr Udoh also pledged speedy completion of the project ahead of the NUGA Games.
Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, Director of sports, Unijos, Prof Ishaya Pam said the NUGA games will attract at least 9,000 athletes and officials from 80 Universities across the country.
