The Benue State University (BSU) in Makurdi will henceforth use its internally generated revenue (IGR) to pay earned academic allowances to lecturers.
The institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had embarked on a strike of nearly three months, demanding academic earned allowance, among other things.
The school was reopened just two weeks ago after the government met most of those demands with a pledge to clear outstanding requests soon.
Governor Samuel Ortom who handed the directive on earned allowances being tied to IGR generation, also ordered a staff audit to determine the university’s workforce and actual wage bill to check fraud and ensure prudence in the management of resources.
