Broadcaster sinks boreholes in Ogun lepers’ colony

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Yoruba Gidi Online Television, Olakunle Fasugba, has sunk boreholes in Oke-Keesi community and the Lepers’ Colony in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Fasugba said the gesture was part of his organisation’s effort to address the challenges of access to potable water.

While informing City & Crime that some challenges were identified during his TV crew’s visit to the communities, he said, “We felt beyond reporting it; we can also help fix the challenges.”

Fasugba explained that the first project was carried out in Oke-Keesi in the Itoko area of Abeokuta where a woman recently set herself and house ablaze over a debt burden.

He said the residents were unable to put out the fire because there was no water in the neighbourhood, hence that there was a need to provide a borehole to serve the community.

Fasugba said that the second project at the Lepers’ Colony was a rehabilitation of a borehole which was in bad shape.

He noted that well-meaning citizens and fans of Yoruba Gidi Online TV supported the idea with funds to execute the projects.

He further said, “Yoruba Gidi Online TV allows me to have access to the myriad of challenges that people face. With this, I believe beyond reporting the challenges; we also have a duty to help the government in solving some of the challenges.

“We are not stopping. We have also identified other areas we can help in Ogun State and other parts of the South West.”

The leader of the Lepers’ Colony, Jimoh Ahmed, commended the donor, saying the gesture had gone a long way in addressing the water challenge in the community, noting that the donor had been assisting inmates with monthly stipends and paid for their healthcare.
