‘The After’, a short film by British Nigerian photographer Misan Harriman, has been nominated for the 96th Academy Awards.
Harriman gained notoriety as the first African American man to appear on the cover of British Vogue. His most recent motion picture, The After, has now been shortlisted for a 96th Academy Award in the Live Action Short Film category.
There were more than 187 eligible films for this category, but only 15 total titles from throughout the globe were ultimately chosen, including The After. The final nominations for five of the fifteen will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

The film, written by Harriman and John Julius Schwabach, follows a ride-share driver, played by David Oyelowo, who finds relief in an unexpected encounter with a passenger. Jessica Plummer and Amelie Dokubo also star alongside Oyelowo.
Iyawo Mi and Her Perfect Life, both by Mo Abudu, who had previously qualified, did not make the list.
