You have high regards for the Calabar Carnival, even comparing it to the more famous Notting Hill carnival in the UK. Can you please tell us more?
Sacha Kingston: After attending this year’s Notting Hill carnival, it became clear to me that it  needs an overhaul. It became even clearer when I compared it to my experience at the Calabar Carnival, which was fantastic

.
But what more would you want to see become part of Calabar Carnival?
Kingston:  It should have better TV coverage.  It is a major event and should be on national TV for people elsewhere to enjoy as well. There are lessons on the rich African culture on display to be learnt.

Do you think Nigerians a good grip on Carnival expertise?
Kingston: I think whoever was in charge of the Calabar Carnival when I attended did an amazing job, so yes, I do think so. And for instance, how many events start on time? But the Calabar Carnival, with so many participants, does.
However, it needs more international food. You know, people come to Calabar from all over for the event. I’m certainly not the only ‘Oyimbo’ to attend, so the food needs to represent that. At international events, you have to also cater for all tastes.
