An Ekiti State chief magistrates’ court sitting in Ado Ekiti, has sentenced one Agunbiade Soji, 42, to five years imprisonment.
Chief Magistrate Mojisola Salau, having listened to the submissions of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) prosecutor, Mr Oluwanifesimi Iyaniwura and that of the defendant, sentenced him to two years on count one, with N20,000 option of fine and on count two, three years with N30,000 option of fine.
The judge said the sentences are to run concurrently.
Soji, a bricklayer, was charged with two-account-charge of felony and housebreaking. He pleaded guilty.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 412 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C39, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In his testimony before the court, one of the victims said, he saw the defendant on his ceiling, watching people’s movement in and out of the compound, and his shout for help attracted his neighbours who arrested him.
The defendant called no witnesses.
