A group of youths under the aegis of Southern Professional Youths (SPY) on Tuesday tackled the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) for attacking Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was recently reportedly to have warned that there were cracks that should be addressed for Nigeria to avoid a breakup.
Osinbajo had spoken during the interdenominational church service to mark the 60th Independence Anniversary in Abuja.
The ACF had warned that his statement could worsen tension in the polity, asking him to be more circumspect with his pronouncements.
But the SPY said it wondered why the ACF took Osinbajo to the cleaners, adding that the vice president only stated what was in the mind of many Nigerians.
In a statement by its national coordinator, Chris Eke, the group said Osinbajo should be commended and not slammed for his bold admonition.
“It is amusing that we hate people who speak the truth without minding whose ox is gored. What the vice president was an admonition to those nurturing seeds of discords that the country could disintegrate. It was more of a warning than a declaration or wish,” the statement read.
