Queen Elizabeth of England is dead

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II who ruled for seven decades has died at the age of  96.

The Queen was last seen publicly when she received new British Prime Minister,  Liz Truss, two days ago.

Before the news of her death broke, Royal Biographer, Christopher Wilson, had said the queen’s life was likely “coming to an end”.

“I’ve been speaking to people in Scotland and I think that we can take it that the queen’s life is coming to an end. I think what is remarkable about this sovereign is that she has clung to the throne and to her job until the very last moment,” Wilson told Al Jazeera.

“I think that we can see that her powers have been declining for the last year at the very least. And she has done a very good job in managing what she’s able to do and … what she wasn’t able to do. She’s gone on far longer than anybody would expect her to.

“She’s 96 years old and she has done all that she can possibly can to retain the strings of power, and the very idea that she was able to stand upright a couple of days ago and greet the new prime minister [shows] an iron will and determination to show that she is still sovereign until the moment she dies.”

During her last moments, it was gathered that her son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles as well as his siblings, relatives and other senior royals travelled to Balmoral to be at their mother’s side.

Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21, 1926. She was Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other sovereign countries.

Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth). Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII.
