Protests broke out in Kaduna over the automatic Senate ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) given to Senator Shehu Sani.
Our correspondent observed that immediately it got round that the three other persons who were to contest for the ticket of the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat had been disqualified, party members trooped to the Alkali Road of the party to stage protest.
One the protesters who gave his name as Auwalu Sani, said they were protesting the attempt by the national secretariat of the party to impose a candidate on them.
He said, “We want the national secretariat to reconsider that position and allow for an election to hold because this is pure imposition.”
The supporters blocked the highway along Ali Akilu road leading to heavy traffic gridlock.
But another group which called itself the Kaduna Patriotic Front commended the decision of the party.
The president of the group, Muhammad Ishaq, said the step taken by the party to reward loyal members would strengthen the party and congratulated Senator Sani for the ticket.
“We call on party faithful to remain steadfast and stand by the decision of Adams Oshiomhole,” he said.
Efforts to get the state governor to react to the matter was not successful as he was said to have travelled to Abuja over the matter.
But the mood in the Kaduna Government House was tense and most of the political appointees did not want to talk about the matter.
