44.6% of voters registered since 2021 are invalid – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said 44.6 per cent of voters who have registered since 2021 are invalid.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said only 1,390,519 (over 55 per cent) Nigerians have registered since 2021 when the commission began another registration.

Yakubu said this on Wednesday in Abuja at a media conference.

“This is a challenging development,” Yakubu said, adding the affected persons would need to re-register.

He also said that only 10 of the 18 registered political parties have notified the commission of their primaries.

He urged the remaining parties to do the needful and for all the parties to strictly follow the electoral laws and other guidelines.
