Many commercial tricycle operators protested at the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State the alleged killing of one of them by a policeman attached to Meran Police Station.

The operators took to the street on Thursday morning, blocking all entry and exit routes of Meran, a community in Abule-Egba, to express their dissatisfaction over the recent killings and extortion by the police.

Some said a policeman allegedly stabbed an operator with a dagger while others said he was shot at by the policeman who left him to die by the side of the road.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday morning along Command road, Meran, Abule-Egba.

Tensions are high as the tricycle operators are reportedly planning to retaliate by attacking the police station.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the protest via a WhatsApp message, said the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had deployed policemen to the area to quell the situation.
