Lagos imposes 24-hour curfew over #ENDSARS

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has imposed a 24-hours curfew on all parts of Lagos State as from 4pm, October 20, 2020 so as to bring under control, the mayhem unleashed on the State by hoodlums under the guise of #EndSARS protest.

Sanwo-Olu, on his twitter handle @jidesanwoolu, said that nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.

“I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society.
“Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our State,”

“As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state,” he said.

In spite of plea by the State Governor, the EndSAR protesters have continued to stage their protests blocking all roads and stopping Lagosians from going about their normal business activities.

Hoodlums are also hiding under the guise of the protest to perpetrate their evil plans.

  • Hoodlums set police station on fire

Earlier on Tuesday, policemen attached to Orile police Station, Lagos State Police Command, ran for dear lives when armed street urchins and cult gang members set the police station on fire.

Most of the Policemen were said to have hastily changed their uniforms to plain cloths before joining the crowd who had converged along the Mile 2-Orile expressway.

Some said the protest, which was peaceful, turned violent following the killing of a young man by a Policeman attached to Orile Police Station.

It was learnt the killing triggered off the attack on the station which led to the burning of the station.

  • Protesters ground commercial activities at seaports

Meanwhile, commercial activities at the Lagos ports, Apapa and Tin-Can Island Ports were grounded on Tuesday morning after #EndSARS protesters took over the two major access roads to the seaports.

The protests were, however, peaceful as protesters dance to different music played by DJs hired by the group to entertain the crowd.

The protesters are demanding for good governance, an end to brutality by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery (Squad) and an outright scrapping of SARS and SWAT.
