The hoodlums were said to have opened fire on the officers who mounted a checkpoint in the area.
The development comes one day after a police station was torched in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
Two police officers were also killed in that tragic incident.
At a press conference earlier on Wednesday, Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, said some of the persons behind the attack in Aba had been killed and some arrests had been made.
He identified the deceased officers as ASP Vincent Gonze and Sergeant Emmanuel Okoronkwo
He said, “It is worth noting that the hoodlums numbering about two hundred persons, armed with AK47 rifles and machetes invaded the station and set part of it ablaze with the aid of petrol bombs and other explosives.
“Following the attack, two officers, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Vincent Gonze and Sergeant Emmanuel Okoronkwo unfortunately paid the supreme price.”
