There is confusion across Ibadan, Oyo State capital, over explosion that shook parts of the city.
Among the areas affected by the incident, which reportedly led to loss of lives and properties, late Tuesday, are Bodija, Agbowo, Eleyele, and Orogun.
Details are still sketchy, but social media users have shared videos and pictures of large-scale destruction affecting filling stations, malls, fast food outlets and residential buildings.
Mark Zacheaus, a resident who spoke with Daily Trust, confirmed the incident, saying the cause was not known.
“It is true but no one can actually comment on the cause of this strange incident at the moment,” he said.
In a video uploaded online, a pick-up van with inscription Bodija Patrol Service was seen conveying corpses.
At least three bodies were seen inside the van which waded through a crowded street.
“Jesus! Jesus!” a male voice was heard screaming as people gathered in groups to discuss the incident.
A residential building was said to have caved in at Eleyele part of the ancient city, leaving residents trapped.
The authorities has not reacted to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
