Ajali Police station in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State is currently on fire.

Details of the attack are still sketchy but Daily Trust gathered that the station was torched by gunmen who killed an officer.

After the gunmen left, some residents moved to rescue officers trapped in the burning building.

Anambra has recorded widespread violence in the buildup to the November governorship election.

The driver of the House of Representatives member representing Nnewi North/ South federal Constituency, Chris Azubogu, was killed on Thursday.

Gunmen had attacked the convoy of Azubuogu at Nnewi in Anambra.

The lawmaker, who just defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, neither answered calls nor responded to a text message sent.
