UPDATE: Adamawa records first case of COVID-19

The governor of Adamawa state, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has confirmed an index case of COVID-19 in the state.

He said at the initial period of the pandemic, there were four suspected cases of the virus which turned out negative.

Fintiri explained that on April 20, the government sent three other samples of suspected cases for testing and one turned out to be positive.

He said the COVID-19 Task force team are working round the clock to hold the spread and are top of the situation.

“The index case is a returnee from Kano who came into the state capital last week. Upon feeling sick, he went to the Specialist hospital in Yola, for consultation where COVID-19 symptoms were identified.

“He was isolated and his samples were sent for testing. This morning the result came in positive”, the governor stated.

He said all apparatus have been put in place at the isolation center and have equally conducted a contact tracing mechanism to get all his contact quarantine and tested.

While calling for a calm in the state, he requested that citizens should prepare for a total lockdown in due cause.

He urged citizens not to despair and panic and assure that the government would give in its best to contain the virus.

“Our collective resolve to defeat COVID-19 must remain unshaken.

“This is a war that must be won,” he stated.

Nigeria as of 11:25pm on Tuesday has 782 confirmed cases, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
