The Chairman of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr. Mohammed Mahmud Abubakar, who was abducted with his daughter, Jamila, by gunmen on Monday, has been released.
The UBEC chairman and his daughter, our correspondent confirmed from a family member, Alhaj Hussaini Danladi, have returned to his Ungwan Rimi residence in Kaduna.
One of the neighbours at the family house in Tudun Wada Kaduna, who didn’t want his name mentioned, told our reporter that most of the people in the community were shocked when it was announced on Monday evening at the community mosque.
“I heard about his abduction in the Mosque on Monday when it was announced that Dr Muhammad has been kidnapped on his way from Abuja.
“We were all shocked when we heard that his daughter too Jamila was also abducted alongside her father. Her wedding was slated after Ramadan and all his brothers rushed out looking worried when they heard the news,” he said.
Neighbours were also observed discussing the issue at a distance with only about three people seen chatting in front of his family house.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Yakubu Sabo, did not pick his phone when our correspondent called his line.
