BPP begins review of procurement bidding documents

The Bureau of Public Procurement has commenced the process for the review and update of standard bidding and contract documents for the procurement of goods, services and contracts.

The Director-General of the bureau, Mamman Ahmadu, said the development of new procurement documents and the revision of the existing documents was aimed at addressing the inadequacies observed by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government in the use of the current documents, which were developed in 2009 and last updated in 2011.

Ahmadu, who was represented at the event by BPP Director, Special Procurement Department, Engr Eze Obasi, stated this at a stakeholder’s workshop on the Review of Draft Standard Bidding and Contract Documents, in Port Harcourt.

He said already, draft procurement documents have been produced and shared with relevant procurement stakeholders, hence the stakeholder’s workshop was aimed at creating an opportunity to harvest valuable inputs from all public procurement stakeholders, discuss the key clauses of interest, synergise various perspectives and incorporate them into the documents being reviewed and developed.

He said while the workshop in Port Harcourt was for stakeholders in the South South and South East, the engagement process will also take place in Lagos, Abuja and Kano to receive input and reactions from a wide range of public procurement’s stakeholders.

“Since the development of the existing standard bidding documents in 2009, a lot has happened in the procurement space both locally and internationally.”
