Boy drowns in Jigawa

A nine-year-old boy, Kabiru Musa, has reportedly drowned in a pond in Marayan Gawo Idonduna village in Jahun LGA of Jigawa State.

The spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, said the incident occurred on Tuesday when the boy was sent by his parents to cut grass for their livestock. He said they received a distress call from the District Head of Kadowawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaiman.

He said local divers rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough search and rescue operation, but that, “Regrettably, by the time Kabiru was located, he had already succumbed to the cold hands of death.

“His body was handed over to his family for burial.’’
