Enugu state Boxing coach, Blaise Ude, on Friday appealed to the state government to sponsor the state’s boxers to the 2022 National Open Boxing Championship holding in Kaduna.
Ude, who made the plea in Enugu, said that the championship was a qualifier for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, already billed to hold at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, from July 28 to Aug. 8.

The coach said his boxers had been training hard since January, immediately after the yuletide celebration, for the Kaduna championships.
“We are preparing for the National Open Boxing Championship in Kaduna, which will be used to select the country’s contingent to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
“We have capable hands that have won medals for the state in the competition in the past.
“The championship will start on March 6 and end on March 13; as the coach, I am doing my best to put the boxers in good shape for the competition,” he said.
Ude said that the boxers needed government’s assistance to be upgraded and exposed, at the championships.
He expressed confidence that the state Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, would come to their aid as a sports lover and especially for boxing.
“I assure the state government and the people that the boxers would win medals, and tickets to the commonwealth games,” he said. (NAN)
